The are a number of options for adding recipients to a campaign.

When a recipient is in a group (s)

Select one or more groups. When the campaign is deployed ALL recipients in these groups will be added to the campaign.

Additionally, when recipients are added to the group AFTER the campaign is deployed, you can configure the campaign to either add these recipients to the campaign or ignore them.

When a recipient  is sent a message (s)

Select one or more messages. When a recipient is sent ANY of these messages they will automatically be added to the campaign.

This is a good option if you do not want to be limited by a group. For example, you have an email message “My Webinar Promotion” and you send this message to various groups at different times. Every recipient who receives this message will automatically be added to the campaign and will start receiving the automated campaign messages. Customers who are configured to use the Unsubscribe from Message Category option may find this option particularly useful.

When a recipient is sent ANY message within a Message Category

Select the appropriate message categories.  You can select just one category or multiple categories. When a recipient is sent ANY message from these categories they will automatically be added to the campaign.

When a recipient opens a message

Select one or more messages.  When a recipient opens ANY of these messages they will automatically be added to the campaign.

When a recipient clicks a Link Label

Select one or more link labels.  When a recipient clicks ANY of these link labels they will automatically be added to the campaign.

When a recipient is tagged

A tag is an attribute that is assigned from a Marketing Automation campaign based on a certain set of conditions being met. This is a good option when you want to add recipients to a campaign based on what they did in ANOTHER campaign. Remember, a recipient completing one campaign can have them starting another campaign. The attribute (tag) assigned to them is the trigger to add them to this campaign.

For example you can create a tag called “Prospect” and apply that tag to all recipients who click on a certain link or open a certain number of messages within a defined time frame.

You can then use the Tag “Prospect” as the criteria for adding people to the campaign. So when the recipient clicks a link he is given the tag “Prospect” and that action automatically enrolls them in the campaign.
