SMS or text messaging is the ability to send a short message to a mobile phone. Real Magnet provides the ability to create SMS messages and broadcast them to your list. Messages are limited to 160 characters.  To enable SMS messaging, contact Customer Support.

Our SMS Platform allows you to:

  • Target an individual or group
  • Provides easy opt out functionality for recipients who wish to unsubscribe
  • View and manage all replies from the Real Magnet Application
  • View real-time tracking

Explicit Consent

When enrolling a recipient to receive SMS text messages, you must receive an explicit opt-in from that recipient.  Whether this is via a form that they have submitted on your website, or within your membership application. Oral consent is not an acceptable opt-in method for any marketing text message.

  • At all times, text messages sent from Real Magnet must be in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
  • Proof of recipient opt-in or explicit consent is required for all SMS text messaging.
  • A recipient can stop participating and receiving messages by texting STOP, END, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL or QUIT. Real Magnet will block sending to that recipient until they text RESUME.
  • Content must be sent to age appropriate customers.
  • Users must obtain approval from recipients before sending marketing messages to wireless numbers.
  • Opt-in must explicitly communicate to the recipient the types of messages they will receive (i.e., order confirmation and upcoming offers, etc), and opt-in should occur at the time the wireless number is provided.
  • The following is a list of opt-in examples for marketing text messages.
    • Recipient may send a Mobile Originated (MO) message from their handset to the DID or short code.
    • Recipient may initiate opt-in from a website form.
    • Recipient may initiate opt-in from an IVR system (telephone keypress).
    • Recipient may initiate opt-in from a paper form.
  • Oral consent is not an acceptable opt-in method for any marketing text message.

Configuring your SMS Message

Real Magnet supports the creation of text-based SMS messages that deliver to a valid phone number. These SMS messages are text only and do support personalization. These messages do not support images or any other formatting.  Single SMS messages are limited to 160 characters once a message exceeds this length, but remains less than 255 characters, a recipient will receive a two-part message.

Creating SMS Messages

  1. Select Messages.
  2. Input a name for your message in the field beneath Create a Message and click Go.
  3. Select the SMS Only/No Email template and click the Choose Template button.
  4. Enter the content and then click the Save red button.smsmessagecontent
  5. Preview the SMS messages by clicking the Preview button

Personalizing SMS Messages

  1. Select Messages.
  2. Input a name for your message in the field beneath Create a Message and click Go.
  3. Select the SMS Only/No Email template and click the Choose Template button.
  4. Enter the content and then click the Save red button.
  5. Select the personalization icon.

Sending an SMS Message

Sending an SMS Message is very similar to sending a regular message, with the exception that only recipients with a SMS number will receive the message.

  1. Click the Send tab.
  2. Double-click on the SMS message you want to send.
  3. Select the time you would like to schedule the message.
  4. Enter the Billing Code, unless a mandatory setting this is entirely optional as a means for you to track internally.
  5. Enter Billing Initials, unless a mandatory setting this is entirely optional as a means for you to track internally.
  6. In the Available Groups section, select the groups that you want to send the message to. These groups will then appear in the Selected Groups section.
  7. Click Submit.

Tracking an SMS Message

Below is how the tracking will display for an SMS Message, as with any message from Real Magnet, excluding faxes, it will display a preview icon to the right, the groups that were sent to, the time of the send and the overall message results. To track any message, you’ll want to proceed to the Track tab.

  1. Double-click on the SMS message you want to track.
  2. The overall tracking details for the SMS message will display. SMSOverallJob

SMS Detailed Tracking

Each green details box will display recipient by recipient detail, delivered and sent are the same as with typical email messages.  The response Failed, Replies and Unsubscribe are a bit different and are explained in further detail below.

Failed

A failed response is defined when a SMS message was not delivered to a recipient.  It will list the recipient name, the SMS number, Status as well as the date and time of the occurrence.

Replies

Replies, with the exception of a unsubscribe response of STOP are collected here.  It will list the recipient name, the SMS number, the date and time of the occurrence, and the reply from the recipient.

Unsubscribing from an SMS Message

Regardless of your unsubscribe type (All, Group, or Category), once a recipient replies with STOP this response is collected by Real Magnet, and is an absolute do not send status.  This unsubscribe cannot be reversed by Real Magnet, and no recipient will be opted back into receiving messages unless they text RESUME.

Words that will unsubscribe a recipient:

  • STOP
  • END
  • UNSUBSCRIBE
  • CANCEL
  • QUIT

Once a recipient replies with STOP they will receive the following messages:

Your recipient may only be opted back in by texting 74121 the Real Magnet short code, RESUME, they will then be given the message:
