Real Magnet Web Tracking gives you the ability to see who is visiting your web pages. This feature is available to customers who use Marketing Automation. It works alongside other tracking tools, such as Google Analytics.
How It Works
Real Magnet will provide you with a segment of code to include on website pages you want to track. Every time a customer visits a page with that code, Real Magnet records that visit.
There are two types of visitors we can track: known and anonymous.
Known visitors are ones who have responded to a Real Magnet campaign in the past, and received a browser cookie from Real Magnet. Visitors become “Known” when they take one of three actions:
- Click on a link in any Real Magnet email (regardless of whether that email was sent from Marketing Automation or not)
- Submit any Real Magnet landing page (hosted by Real Magnet or hosted on your site)
- Submit a form on your site that uses the Web Tracking code Real Magnet provided you.
The first two options are part of your normal use of Real Magnet. The third requires an additional step on your side to set up your website to send information back to Real Magnet.
Real Magnet uses the browser cookie to associate web visits to a recipient record in your Real Magnet account.
Tracking anonymous visitors is an option that you can add onto basic Web Tracking. Anonymous visitors are ones who came to your website before responding to a Real Magnet campaign. Real Magnet still gives these visitors a cookie, but cannot identify them until they do any of three actions listed above. Once they do, they become a known visitor and we can associate past web visits to that recipient.
Once Web Tracking is set up for your account, you can enroll recipients into campaigns or build conditions that use recipients’ web history. Both enrollment and conditions use the same criteria you see in other Real Magnet options: you can select a specific web page, or even any web page that contains part of a URL.
How to Get Started
Contact Real Magnet to enable Web Tracking for your account. Once it’s enabled, you can log in and receive the Web Tracking code to add to your webpages.
How to Find Your Web Tracking Code
Once Web Tracking is enabled for your account, you can access your code by:
- Go to the Automation tab.
- Click on Campaign Management (either the button or the left sidebar link.)
- Click Web Tracking Code in the left sidebar.
- Copy the code out of the pop-in window which appears.
Once you have copied the code, you can paste it within the body of the HTML code of the web pages you wish to track.
